Agnes Marie Augustine, 98, of Mishawaka, passed away Thursday evening, April 7, 2016 in Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa.
Agnes was born June 7, 1917 in Kewanna, Indiana, a daughter of the late Medda and Delina (Cyr) Perry. She lived in the Mishawaka / South Bend area since 1925. She attended St. Joseph Grade School in Mishawaka and was a graduate of Mishawaka High School
Agnes married Nicholas James Augustine on March 15, 1945 in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Augusta, Georgia.
Agnes was the secretary to the Director of the St. Joseph County Welfare Department for 22 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka and their Rosary Society. At one time she was active with the Harvest House at St. Anthony’s, the First Friday Mothers Club at St. Joseph’s and the Battell Center.
Agnes’ surviving family includes her three children, Jane (James) DeWinter of Mishawaka, James Augustine of Osceola and John (Nancy) Augustine of Elkhart; twelve grandchildren, Andrew (Jade) Augustine, Kim (Tony) Gruber, Mike Atkinson, Chris (Rhonda) Atkinson, Angie VanGoey, Mandy Augustine, Nick Augustine, Jeremy (Ali) DeWinter, Jenna (Derek) Brannock, Shane Augustine, Kyle Augustine and Emilie Augustine; twenty great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas James Augustine in 1972; three sisters, Pauline Breiler, Wilma Perry and Irene Edwards; and three brothers, Bob, Ed and James Perry.
Agnes’ family would like to thank the staff at Millers Merry Manor in Wakarusa for the excellent care given to their Mom. They sincerely appreciate each and every one of you for all your love and kindness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, April 12, at 11 am in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Terry Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation is Tuesday from 10 - 11 am in the church.
Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Mishawaka Catholic Schools.
