Agnes D. Spencer, 94, of Long Beach, California, formerly of Mishawaka, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2011.

Agnes was born July 22, 1917, the seventh and youngest child of the late Charles and Agnes (Stoeckinger) Koeppen. She graduated from Mount St. Joseph College in Cincinnati.

On August 5, 1944 Agnes married Norbert Spencer in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka. He died in World War II.

In 1953, Agnes settled in Long Beach, California. She was employed for many years as administrative assistant to the chief of medical service at the Veterans Hospital in Long Beach. Agnes was an active member of St. Barnabas Parish in Long Beach.

Agnes is survived by her son, Norbert “Mike” Spencer; daughter-in-law, Margaret Hull; granddaughter, Cara; nieces and nephews, Mary Agnes (Gerard) VanSanten, Carl (Ann) Huemmer, Richard (Patricia) Huemmer, Margaret (Joseph) Kluszynski and Lawrence (Sharon) Huemmer.

Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by three brothers, Ernest Koeppen, Theodore Koeppen and Brother Hubert “Joe” Koeppen, CSC; and three sisters, Sister Secunda “Marie” Koeppen, PHJC, Sister Charles “Helen” Koeppen, PHJC, and Margaret Huemmer.

Services will be held Saturday, October 8, at 11 am in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Terry Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Mishawaka.

Visitation for family and friends will be Saturday from 10 - 11 am in the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, October 4, in St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Long Beach.
