Alvin Wilson Lancaster, 90, of Mishawaka, passed away Thursday afternoon, October 1, 2015, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.
“Al†was born October 28, 1924 in Greensboro, North Carolina, a son of the late Boaz Walter and Flora Mae (Stevenson) Lancaster. He grew up in North Carolina and moved to Mishawaka at the age of 17. He served his country in the US Army during World War II.
Al married Dolores Gulatta on November 2, 1947. The couple made Mishawaka their home.
Al was employed for several years at Studebaker Corporation. For 20 years he was employed in heating and cooling repair with Ideal Consolidated. After retiring from there in 1990, Al worked in maintenance at St. Mary’s College. He also spent considerable time at Bruno’s Pizza helping in maintenance and repair.
Over the years, Al loved his cars, hot rods and Jeeps. He was a member of the Sod Busters.
Al belonged to the Apostolic Temple in South Bend. He was former member of Masonic Lodge # 130 F&AM and the South Bend Shriner’s. Al and Dolores enjoyed wintering in Fort Myers Beach, Florida, for several years.
Al was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores; and three brothers, Walter, John and Robert Lancaster.
Al’s surviving family includes a son, Larry Lancaster; a daughter, Susan Lancaster; a brother, Raymond Lancaster; a sister, Mae Paschal; four grandchildren, Alvin, Joseph, Rachel and Sara; and several great grandchildren.
Services honoring Al’s life will be held Monday, October 5, at 11 am in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, with Pastor Christopher Rowe officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
Visitation is Monday from 10 - 11 am in the funeral home.
