Avle “Sue” Swihart, 86, of Mishawaka, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.
Sue was born January 26, 1936 in Enville, Tennessee to the late James and Mary Lela (Lewis) Carroll. She married Douglas Swihart on June 8, 1957 at Twin City Baptist Church in Mishawaka. They recently celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Sue is survived by her husband, Doug; three children, Sherri (Dave) Hill, Brenda Weldy and Alan (Angela) Swihart; four sisters, Louise (Wayne) Conway, Thresia “Top” (Sam H. “Hootie”) Young, Wanda “Faye” (Larry) Strycker and Paulette (Jim) Kuzmanovich; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, James Carrol, Jr. and Roy Carroll.
Sue was a long-time member of Twin City Baptist Church in Mishawaka. She loved scrapbooking and crafts and was talented in sewing, crocheting and knitting. At one time she enjoyed vegetable gardening and canning. She dearly loved ice cream and the family has a funny memory of a favorite saying of Sue’s; “it’s too hot for ice cream.”
To celebrate Sue’s life, a time of sharing memories and enjoying ice cream will take place on Wednesday, August 10, from 1:00 to 2:30 pm at Twin City Baptist Church in Mishawaka. A Memorial Service will follow at 2:30 pm at the church.
Memorial donations to the family would be appreciated.
