Betty R. Frick, 84, a long-time Mishawaka resident, passed away peacefully Friday evening, July 14, 2017, at Hospice House of Elkhart, surrounded by her loving family, following a courageous journey with the disease, ALS.
Betty was born July 20, 1932 in Russellville, Kentucky, the daughter of Otto and Chloriece (Cavanah) Gibson. She was a 1950 graduate of Mishawaka High School.
On June 11, 1950, Betty married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Lester L. Frick. Les preceded her in death in 2016. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a great grandson, Theodore Bryant Lehman; and a sister-in-law, Jeanette Bolding.
Besides Betty’s strong Christian faith, her family was the center of her life. Those left to cherish the memory of this inspirational and graceful lady include her four children, Susan (Chuck) Lehman, Steven (Cheryl) Frick, Linda (Patric) Whitehead and Kathy (Dave) Handschu; eleven grandchildren, Christa Frick Gabrielson, Carrie Lehman, Scott (Jen) Frick, Amberly “AJ” Whitehead, Chad (Emily) Handschu, Laura (Joshua) Rydzinski, Alysen (Ryan) Sobecki, Erin (Andy) Toth, Stacy Handschu, Abbey (Reid) Platt and Bryant (Emily) Lehman; along with fifteen great grandchildren; and sisters-in-law that she counted as sisters, Lucille (Bob) Kenaga, Katherine Elliot, Garnet Mogle and Lois Fuller. She also considered as family her friends at Gospel Center Missionary Church and St. Paul’s Retirement Community.
Betty did many things professionally. She taught Kindergarten and was the first Administrative Assistant at Grissom Middle School with PHM. Betty was the first female vice president at Mishawaka Federal Bank as a Branch Manager. For years Betty worked alongside her husband, Les, as long time self-employed Real Estate Brokers and later in appraisal.
Betty had a heart for caregiving and ministering to others. Through the years, she quietly helped many. She loved to cook and enjoyed conversation.
Friends may spend time with Betty’s family on Monday from 3 – 7 pm at Gospel Center Church, 930 S. 30th Street, South Bend.
Services honoring the life and faith of Betty Frick will be held Tuesday at 11 am in the church with visitation from 10 – 11 am. Officiating will be Pastor Jon Ranous. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Debt Retirement Fund at Gospel Center Church.
