Bonnie Mae Britton, 92, of Mishawaka, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 2, 2014.

Bonnie was born May 8, 1921 in York Township, Noble County, Indiana and grew up on the family farm. Her parents were Russel and Grace (Butz) King. She was a 1939 graduate of Albion High School, Albion, Indiana. Throughout her life she lived in Albion, Mishawaka, Ashtabula, Ohio, Phoenix, Arizona and Indianapolis.

Bonnie was employed as a waitress locally at the Mishawaka Hotel, Lincoln Highway Inn, Mayfair Restaurant and Big Bear Restaurant and in Indianapolis at the I-70 Holiday Inn. In later years she was employed at the Mishawaka City Clerk’s Office and served as Deputy Clerk as well as Chief Deputy Clerk.

Bonnie was a member of First Christian Church in Mishawaka and the Mishawaka Democratic Women’s Club. She formerly belonged to River Park United Methodist Church in South Bend. Bonnie enjoyed sewing, playing cards and bingo and watching sports on television, especially the Chicago Bulls. For 10 years she wintered with her family in Bradenton, Florida.

Bonnie married Homer Fisher on August 12, 1939 in Auburn, Indiana and David Britton on December 15, 1954 in Albion. They both preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Eldon King; and a sister Thelma Foster.

Bonnie’s surviving family includes her children, Judith (Larry) Glore of Greensburg, David (Cindy) Fisher of Osceola, Edward (Martha) Fisher of South Bend, Kristen (Gary) Iwaniuk of Osceola, James Britton of Osceola and Jacqueline Leliaert of Mishawaka; a brother, Donald (Pat) King of Kissimmee, Florida; seventeen grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.

Friends may spend time with Bonnie’s family Thursday, March 6, from 3 - 6 pm in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka.

Services honoring her life will be held Thursday at 6 pm in the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Gregory Timmons officiating. Cremation will follow with burial at Wright Cemetery near Albion.
