Carl Weber, 85, of Mishawaka, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2013, in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Carl was born November 14, 1927 in Mishawaka, a son of the late August and Lela (Shafer) Weber. He graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1945 and served his country in the US Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in December of 1946.
On June 24, 1950, Carl married the former Mary Ann Reschke in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Ann; four sons, Michael Weber of Mishawaka, Steven (Jill) Weber of Niles, David (Mary) Weber of Mishawaka and Brian Weber of New Carlisle; and six grandchildren, Suzanne Weber, Amanda Weber, Adam (Kylee) Weber, Kristin (David) Schneider, Andrew Weber and Savannah Weber.
Carl was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Weber.
In August of 1947, Carl started his apprenticeship as an electrician using GI Bill benefits. He worked for various contractors. In 1954 Carl joined the Mishawaka Fire Department and retired in 1975 as Assistant Chief. He then started his own company, Weber Electric, and trained two of his sons as electricians.
Carl was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council #1878 serving as Grand Knight in 1978 - 1979. He was also a member of American Legion Post #161 and the Mishawaka High School Alumni. He really enjoyed family gatherings and was a strong advocate of “laughter is the best medicine.†Ask anyone about this who was around at the family get-togethers. Carl also loved hunting, fishing, bowling, golfing and traveling especially the summers spent in Wyoming and winters in Texas. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be missed by all who knew him.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, October 17, at 10:30 am in St. Monica Catholic Church, 222 W. Mishawaka Ave, Mishawaka, with Monsignor Bruce Piechocki officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 16, from 4 - 8 pm in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, with a Prayer Service and Time of Sharing Memories at 7:30 pm. Visitation is also in the church Thursday one hour before the Mass.
The Firefighter Honor Guard will be provided by the Mishawaka Fire Department and Military Honors will be provided by VFW 360 / American Legion 161 Burial Squad.
