Catherine “Katie” J. Redman, 93, of South Bend, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the Sanctuary at Holy Cross, surrounded by her loving family.

Catherine was born October 27, 1917 in Mishawaka, a daughter of the late William and Hazel (Miller) Heiser, Sr.

Catherine married Tony C. Redman on December 2, 1933. He preceded her in death in 1993.

Catherine is survived by a son, Charles K. (Sally) Redman of Mishawaka; four grandchildren, Christine (Jay) Forslund, Kevin (Lara) Redman, Rita (Bryan) Sterrett and Janet (Joe) Hutsell; eight great grandchildren, Brittany, Bailey, Kendall and Landon Redman, Spencer Forslund, and Jenna, Jackie and Jake Hutsell; a sister, Marjorie VerVaet; and a brother, Fredrick (Ruth) Heiser.

Besides her husband, Tony, Catherine was also preceded in death by a son, Richard Redman; daughter-in-law, Andrea Redman; a grandson, Charles E. Redman and his wife, Terri Redman; two sisters, Josephine Burket and Betty Nagle; and three brothers, William Heiser, Jr., Floyd Wambaugh; and Bernard Wambaugh.

Catherine was employed for twenty years at Robertsons Department Store, working in the credit department and later as a buyer, retiring in 1979. Later she volunteered for eight years in the gift shop at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka. Catherine was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church in Mishawaka. She enjoyed making crafts, playing cards, sewing and especially spending time with her family.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at 10 am in St. Monica Catholic Church, 222 W. Mishawaka Ave., Mishawaka. The Celebrant was Monsignor William Schooler and Rev. Jeffery Largent concelebrated. Burial followed in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.

Friends spent time with Catherine’s family Tuesday, May 17, 2011, from 4 - 7 pm in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, where the Rosary was prayed at 7 pm. Visitation was also Wednesday, May 18, from 9 - 10 am in church.

Memorials are suggested to the Sanctuary at Holy Cross or the Center for Hospice Care. Assistance with memorials is available at the funeral home.
