Cathryn Diane Boehnlein, age 88, of South Bend, went to be with the Lord on June 30, 2023, while residing in Carmel, Indiana. Diane was born February 1, 1935, in Danville, Illinois to the late John and Irene (Wolfe) Pinegar. Diane’s family moved to Mishawaka, and she graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1953. On November 24, 1955, she married James H. Boehnlein at St. Bavo Catholic Church in Mishawaka. He preceded her in death on July 26, 2006. Her brother, John Robert Pinegar, also preceded her in death.
Diane's greatest joy was being a wife, mother and grandmother. She was an exceptional role model, showering her children and grandchildren with love and support. Her nurturing spirit will continue to guide and inspire them, ensuring that her legacy lives on through future generations. Her ability to bring order and organization to any task was also greatly admired by her family.
In her spare time, she enjoyed golf, playing bridge and euchre, shopping, traveling, and spending time with her many friends. Diane's character and sunny disposition endeared her to all who knew her. Her kindness and generosity touched many lives.
Diane was a long-standing member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, the Christ Child Society, and Tri-Kappa Sorority.
Surviving are her four children, Cathy (Brad) Grayson of Columbus, Indiana, Kelley (Frank) Violi of Zionsville, Indiana, Stephen (Karen) Boehnlein of Richfield, Ohio, and Kimberly (Peter) Rittenhouse of Allentown, Pennsylvania. Surviving as well are twelve grandchildren, Erica (Dale) Hensley, Neil Grayson, Patrick (Elizabeth) Grayson, Lauren (Jonathan) Jahn, Daniel (Hannah Fishman) Violi, Stephanie (Michael) DelMedico, Alexandra and Emily Boehnlein, Ryan, Nicholas (Elizabeth Haderer), Michael, and Peter Rittenhouse. and five great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Miles Grayson, Jayce Hensley, Michael (Mac) and Austin DelMedico.
Visitation will be held from 9:30am-11 am with the Mass of Christian burial to follow immediately after at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Granger on Friday, July 14, 2023. Following the ceremony and luncheon, Diane will be laid to rest beside her husband Jim in Fairview Cemetery. Wells and Cruz Family Funeral Home (Formerly Goethals and Wells) of Mishawaka has been entrusted with her care.
