Chani E. Whetstone

Chani Whetstone, 32, of Mishawaka, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Friday, December 20. She was born on September 16, 1992, in Mishawaka to Jennifer Brown.

Chani is also survived by her brothers, Tyee and Quinn Calhoon, Devon Smith Jr., and Christopher Smith; her sisters, Courtney Reeves, Whitney Victoria Smith, and Alexis Orange Smith; her grandparents, Amanda Jensen, Denise Clark, Jackie Smith, and Alan and Merle Ovre. She leaves behind her adopted father, Craig Whetstone, her uncle, Jay Alan Brown, and her aunts, Kimberly Calhoon, Jacqueline Smith, Youlanda Smith, Derise Wood, and Denise Whetstone Mattox, as well as three nieces, extended family, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Wyatt Theodore Harold Fleck; her biological father, Devon Smith; her stepfather, Scott Calhoon; her grandfather, Chester Theodore Brown; her aunt, Alanna Brown; and her uncle, Jerry Whetstone. 

Chani was a proud graduate of Purdue University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology. She was working at Planet Fitness while building her life in the area. Chani loved reading and found great happiness in her books and the company of her cherished cats. She was an avid fan of the McLaren team in IndyCar and Formula 1 racing, and her excitement for the sport was well known. With her adventurous spirit and kind heart, Chani made friends wherever she went and left a lasting impression with her warmth and sweetness.

In accordance with the family’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Wells and Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Care of Mishawaka have been entrusted with her care.
