Daniel Keith Votava, age 36 of Mishawaka, passed away following an accident on Thursday, July 27, 2023. Dan was born December 16, 1986, in Chicago, Illinois. Following his graduation from Mishawaka High School, he enrolled at Indiana University where he studied Criminal Justice. Following his time at IU, he worked for Nick’s English Pub in Bloomington for over 10 years before moving home to Mishawaka in 2021. Dan was most recently employed as a chef by the Blue Lantern Restaurant in Mishawaka where he was admired by his co-workers for his friendliness and dedication to his job.
He is survived by his parents Dennis and Nancy (Rhodes) Votava, his longtime companion Alexis McCloud and his sisters Samantha (Jason) Dosmann and Alexis Votava, all of Mishawaka. Surviving as well are his nieces and nephews Payton, Olivia, Gabriella, Aiden, Ryder, Jason and Jiren whom he loved dearly and enjoyed spending time with.
Visitation will be held from 4-7pm Friday, August 4, 2023, at Wells and Cruz Family Funeral Home (formerly Goethals and Wells) in Mishawaka. There will also be 2 hours of visitation prior to the 2:00 pm funeral service at Wells and Cruz Family Funeral Home on Saturday, August 5, 2023, with Father Christopher Lapp of St. Joseph Catholic Church presiding. Entombment will take place privately at a later time.
Dan was a true sports fan and followed the Chicago Bears. He also loved the pageantry and excitement of the Kentucky Derby. Beyond his interest in sports, Dan appreciated all kinds of music, and his playlists were filled with tunes from various genres. He also found joy in attending concerts and watching movies.
Above all, Dan will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his generous and caring nature made him an exceptional friend to all. He was always there to lend a helping hand, offering support and kindness to those in need. People were drawn to him, as his genuine warmth and sincerity made lasting connections with countless souls.
