After the war, she transitioned to her role as a dedicated homemaker, pouring her heart into caring for her five children. In her 60s, Doris embarked on a new adventure, joining Eagle Creek State Park, where she found joy and fulfillment working with the park’s visitors.

Doris lived a life rich in love, service, and quiet strength. An artist at heart, she expressed her creativity through painting, capturing the beauty of the world around her in vibrant colors and detail. She spent countless hours in her flower and vegetable gardens, tending to her plants with care and devotion. She also had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, finding peace hiking through the woods and observing the birds that frequented her bird feeders. She stayed informed about current events and politics and was always eager to engage in meaningful discussions.

A sports enthusiast, Doris rooted faithfully for the Notre Dame football team, the Indianapolis Colts, and the Cincinnati Reds. She also enjoyed friendly games of cards, with Euchre being a favorite pastime among friends and family.

Though she was quiet by nature, Doris's love spoke volumes. She was a friend to all who knew her, offering kindness, love, and support without hesitation. Her family held a special place in her heart, and she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to their happiness and well-being. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, and she was a longtime member of Speedway United Methodist Church, finding strength and comfort in her spiritual community.
