Dorothy R. Kobold, 86, of Mishawaka, passed away Sunday afternoon, October 12, 2014, in Golden Living Center.
Dorothy was born January 28, 1928 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a daughter of the late Louis and Rose (Menez) Loucas. She moved with her family to Mishawaka when she was five. She was a 1946 graduate of Mishawaka High School.
Dorothy married Lewis P. Kobold on November 28, 1946 in St. Monica Catholic Church, Mishawaka. They made Mishawaka their home.
Dorothy was a homemaker. She also worked for many years in the cafeteria at Mishawaka High School where she was known as “the cookie lady.†She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and their Rosary Society. Dorothy volunteered at St. Joseph School when her children were growing up. She was a member of the Beiger Mansion Restoration and Historical Society. Dorothy and Lewis enjoyed traveling and camping in the summer at Weko Beach on Lake Michigan with their children, grandchildren and friends. She was a wonderful mother and her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis; and by an infant daughter, Jessica Kobold.
Dorothy’s surviving family includes five children, Suzanne (Michael) Dunkelberger of South Bend, Mary (Gary) Amacher of Mishawaka, Lewis Paul (Marcia) Kobold of California, Mark (Teresa) Kobold of Mishawaka and Steven (Mary Ellen) Kobold of Florida; a sister, Catherine (Edward) Baer of South Bend; eleven grandchildren, Shellyanne (Brian), Scott (Lorrie), Jennifer (Julian), David, Patrick, Kyle (Devon), Loucas, Megan, Matthew, Kevin and Kaitlin; and seven great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 pm on Friday, October 17, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Terry Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. There is no public visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hannah’s House, 518 W. 4th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544.
