Dorothy M. Morre`, 83, of South Bend and formerly of West Lafayette, passed away Wednesday, February 07, 2018, in Sanctuary at St. Paul’s Memory Care.
Dorothy was born January 18, 1935 in Frankenstein, Missouri, to the late Conrad and Mary (Huesgen) Wibberg. She grew up in Missouri where she graduated from Mokane High School. Dorothy furthered her education at University of Missouri at Columbia where she met her future husband. She earned her Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD.’s from Purdue University.
Dr. Dorothy Morre` was a Professor in the Department of Foods and Nutrition at Purdue University from 1978 – 2008. Following retirement she joined her husband in their cancer research company in West Lafayette. At one time she worked at universities in Heidelberg and Berlin, Germany as well as Gothenburg, Sweden.
Dorothy was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Lafayette and formerly belonged to and was a founding member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in West Lafayette. She currently attended Mass at St. Paul’s. Over the years she enjoyed singing in choirs at her churches. Dorothy was a board member of the Bach Chorale. She belonged to the Tippecanoe Historical Society where she was active with Feast of the Hunter’s Moon for 50 years. She was a Girl Scout and 4-H Leader and volunteered at Care Giver Companion. Dorothy traveled extensively in the United States and around the world.
Dorothy married D. James Morre` on August 25, 1956 and he preceded her in death on June 16, 2016. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and a sister, Clarence, William and Elizabeth.
Dorothy is survived by her three children, Connie (Roy) Chalko of South Bend, Jeffrey (Susan) Morre` of Corvalis, Oregon and Suzanne (John) Miner of Lake Zurich, Illinois; nine grandchildren, Christopher (Christine) Chalko, Eric (Heather) Chalko, Katherine Chalko, Mariah (Levi) Ward, Aren (Tessa) Rutter, Zanna Morre`, Matthew (Jennifer) Miner, Timothy (Amy) Miner and Nicholas (Kelsey) Miner; eleven great grandchildren; and a sister, Iona (Charlie) Bond.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3 pm EST on Sunday, February 11, in the Chapel at the Sanctuary at St. Paul’s, 3602 S. Ironwood Drive, South Bend. Cremation will follow with burial at St. Boniface Cemetery in West Lafayette.
Visitation will be from 2 – 3 EST pm Sunday prior to the Mass.
