Dorothy Mae (Devine) Thomas, 86, of Mishawaka entered heavenly rest on Sunday, March 3, 2024, with her family by her side. She was born in Hattiesburg, MS on October 4, 1937, to the late Clifton and Mattie Devine.

Surviving are her four children LeeDora Blanton of Elkhart, Marlon Lewis of Indianapolis, Arunita Thomas and Foster Thomas, Jr. both of Mishawaka; a sister, Loyce Johnson of Ft. Wayne, sister-in-law, Shirley McFarland and four grandchildren, Julena Blanton, Marlon Lewis, Jr., Deja and Darreon Thomas also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Foster Thomas, and a sister LeeBertha Devine.

Over her 35-year career at Healthwin Hospital, Dorothy touched the lives of hundreds of families with her unwavering compassion and dedication. As an usher at Mt. Olive Church, she faithfully served her congregation, embodying the values of faith and community. Dorothy found joy in cheering on her beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish and harbored a lifelong dream of attending an Indy 500 race and Kentucky Derby. However, her greatest love was reserved for her family, who she adored and cherished above all else. Known affectionately as "granny," Dorothy's presence brought warmth and love to those around her.

A time to celebrate her life is scheduled for Friday, March 15, 2024, from 11 a – 1 pm at Mount Olive Church, 1122 Miner St. South Bend, IN 46617, with a service starting at 1pm.  Pastor Hudson will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at Highland cemetery.

To honor Dorothy’s life, memorial contributions may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association.
