Eldon C. Robison, 62, of Bloomington, Indiana, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2019 at IU Hospice House. Eldon was born on November 14, 1956 in Mishawaka, IN. He grew up in Mishawaka, Indiana and was a 1974 graduate of Mishawaka High School. In 1980, he was graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN.
Reading was one of Eldon’s greatest passions in life. Sharing what he had read through reading aloud to others was also one of his supreme pleasures. He continued to read aloud to friends almost until the day of his death, delighting his audiences, and astonishing the staff at Golden Living, the nursing home where he had until recently resided. From an early age, Eldon had a voracious appetite for learning, story-telling, and art. He imparted his extensive knowledge of literature, chess, political science, and philosophy with multiple generations of family and friends, all of whom greatly admired his intellect and his ability to teach and inspire others. Eldon was a man of keen insight and stunning intelligence, who possessed a remarkable memory. He was an accomplished chess player throughout his life. He often connected with others through a shared love of the game. Eldon was an extremely vigorous and energetic man who loved the outdoors, jogging, cycling, chopping wood, playing squash, and canoeing. A highlight of his life’s experience was canoeing and camping in the Canadian Boundary Waters with a group of close friends.
Eldon worked in the telecommunications industry, most recently as a consultant for Espy Services of Bedford, IN. He had a life-long interest in politics and was an active member of the Indiana Democratic Party. He worked on the Howard Dean Primary Presidential Campaign (2003-2004). Eldon was a founding member of the Indiana Progressives PAC, and served as its president from 2008 through 2010.
Eldon’s warmth, generosity, friendliness, and indomitable optimism were constant aspects of his personality, even after his diagnosis of glioblastoma, a particularly lethal form of brain cancer. He was widely regarded by those he encountered as a paradigm of cheerfulness and charm. He had a remarkably quick mind and a wonderful sense of humor. Eldon was much loved by his daughter, Oriane, and by his mother, Mary; as well as by his many great friends, all of whom miss his presence dearly.
Eldon is survived by his daughter, Oriane Robison of Bloomington, IN and his mother, Mary (Rohrer) Robison of Mishawaka, IN. He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Robison.

Thanks to art, instead of seeing one world only, our own, we see that world multiply itself and we have at our disposal as many worlds as there are original artists, worlds more different from one another than those which revolve in infinite space, worlds which, centuries after the extinction of the fire from which their light first emanated, whether it is called Rembrandt or Vermeer, send us still each one its special radiance.
