Fern Mae Wagle, 94, passed on to her heavenly home, Saturday, August 6, 2016, in the Sanctuary at St. Paul’s in South Bend.
Fern was born April 26, 1922 in Donnellson, Iowa, to the late Henry William and Hilda Barbara (Galle) Sprenger. She grew up with her ten siblings on their family farm.
Fern is survived by her sons, Lawrence Paul (Sally) Wagle of Boyne Falls, Michigan and Reginald Howard (Barbara) Wagle of Mishawaka; grandchildren, Reginald Jr., Emmett, Joseph, Maia and Kristin; and great grandchildren, Jack, Lily, Emmett Jr. and Teddy.
Fern married Paul Lewis Wagle in September of 1941. She was an early example for women advancing in the workplace. Beginning in the 1950’s, when barriers existed everywhere for women seeking leadership roles, she eventually rose to become national merchandiser for clothing at F.W. Woolworth and its descendent retail companies such as Foot Locker.
A private family memorial service will be held in September at the site of her family’s farm in southeast Iowa.
Memorial gifts may be directed to Memorial Children’s Hospital in South Bend.
Arrangements are under the care of Goethals & Wells Funeral Home and Cremation Care, Mishawaka.
