Francis L. “Fred” Hirl, age 83 of Granger, passed away on September 25, 2023. Fred was born February 27, 1940, in Mishawaka, Indiana to the late Joseph and Marie (Schumacher) Hirl. On September 11, 1971, in Mishawaka, Indiana, Fred married the former Ms. Carolyn Murphy. Carolyn proceeded him in death on February 27, 2023. Fred is survived by his son Michael Hirl of Allen County, Indiana and his siblings; Peter (Kate) Hirl of Granger, Indiana, Barbara (Harold) Miller of Mishawaka, Indiana, Bernard Hirl of Naples, Florida, and Joseph Hirl.
A Mass in remembrance of Francis will take place at 10:00 am on October 27, 2023, at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mishawaka, Indiana. Following services, Fred will be laid to rest beside his wife Carolyn in Catholic Cemetery of Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Wells and Cruz Family Funeral Home (formerly Goethals and Wells) has been entrusted with his care.
Fred was employed for many years in the maintenance department of Parkview Regional Medical Center in Ft. Wayne. In his spare time, Fred’s enjoyed amateur photography and had a keen eye for capturing the beauty of the world around him. Most of all, Fred’s most remarkable quality was his unwavering love and care for his wife, Carolyn. Throughout her illness, he stood by her side, providing comfort and support, exemplifying the true meaning of "in sickness and in health." Their love was a source of inspiration to all who knew them. Fred was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus. His commitment to his faith was also evident in his membership at the Precious Blood Catholic Church of Ft. Wayne, where his soul found peace and comfort.
