Fred Joseph Flury, 72, of Osceola, passed away Tuesday morning, December 16, 2014, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka.

Fred was born October 15, 1942 in Mishawaka a son of the late Robert J. and Sara Jane (Ernst) Flury. He grew up in Mishawaka and attended Mishawaka Schools. Fred served his country in the US Army from 1964 - 1967.

Fred married Joan DalleAve on April 6, 1968 and she preceded him in death in 1998.

For 40 years, Fred was employed with the Elkhart Truth and for 32 of those years was a member of Newsroom Photography Department. He retired in 2008 as the Chief of Photography at the newspaper.

Fred was a member of the National Rifle Association. He loved the outdoors and was an avid big game hunter, a member of the Boone & Crockett Club and was a hunter safety instructor. Fred also enjoyed fishing. He belonged to the Metis Tribe and was a member of the Metis Hawk Band. Fred was a Master Gardener through Purdue University.

Fred is survived by his daughter, Dawn (Joey Foss) Flury of Atlanta, Georgia; his sister, Loretta Wasmuth; and his former wife, Mimi.

Fred’s family will receive friends at a Memorial Gathering on Saturday, December 20, from 2 - 4 pm in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka. At 3 pm a Traditional Metis Ceremony will take place. Cremation has taken place and entombment will be in the Mausoleum at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
