Fred W. Steif

Fred W. Steif, 87, of South Bend, passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2021.

Fred was born November 13, 1933 in Mishawaka, to the late Walter and Clara (Stoeckinger) Steif. He was a graduate of Mishawaka High School.

Fred married Priscilla J. Beaman on June 12, 1954. The couple made South Bend their home.

Fred was a Tool & Die Maker and for over 30 years owned and operated F&F Machine Specialty in Mishawaka. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Granger. Fred was a talented and meticulous woodworker, making many items including furniture. He enjoyed refurbishing Cushman Scooters. He loved golfing and played on a league for many years.

Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Priscilla; and a sister, Betty (Leo) Matt.

Survivors include his two daughters, Deb (Paul) Bonin of Mishawaka and Cathy Greetis of Mishawaka; a brother, Robert (Mary) Steif of Mishawaka; a sister, Margaret (Francis “Chris”) Christ of Mishawaka; four grandchildren, Jennifer (James) Luchowski, B.J. (Stephanie) Bonin, Kristen Greetis and Casey Greetis; and four great grandchildren, Megan and Madison Luchowski, and Keely and Emerson Bonin.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 pm on Friday, June 18, in St. Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Road, Granger. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.

Visitation will be from 12:30 – 1:30 pm on Friday in church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Comfort 1 Hospice, 129 S. Dixie Way, South Bend, IN 46637.
