Genevieve C. Kalil, 92, of Mishawaka, passed away early Tuesday morning, August 11, 2015, in Hospice House, South Bend.
“Gen†was born March 15, 1923 in Peru, Illinois, a daughter of the late John and Julia (Krolski) Gapinski. She grew up in Peru, Illinois, and was a graduate of LaSalle Peru High School.
Gen married Louis J. Kalil on June 21, 1952 in Peru, Illinois. The couple made Mishawaka their home.
From 1941 - 1952 Gen worked at Westclox in Peru and following marriage became a homemaker. She was employed for seven years as a crossing guard for School City of Mishawaka.
Gen was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church and their Rosary Society. She enjoyed cooking, baking, flower gardening and was talented in needle work.
Gen’s surviving family includes her husband of 63 years, Louis; a son, Gregory Kalil; and a granddaughter, Stephanie Kalil.
Gen was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, Edwin and Arthur Gapinski.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, August 14, at 11:00 am in St. Monica Catholic Church, 222 W. Mishawaka, Ave., Mishawaka, with Monsignor Bruce Piechocki officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Friends may spend time with Gen’s family Thursday, August 13, from 1:00 - 3:00 pm and 6:30 - 8:00 pm in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 pm. Visitation is also Friday from 10:00 - 11:00 am in the church.
Contributions in Gen’s memory are suggested to St. Monica Church or Center for Hospice Care. Assistance with memorials is available through the funeral home.
