George R. Eberlein, 83, of Mishawaka passed away at home on Friday, January 7, 2022.
George was born July 26, 1938 in Orland, Indiana, to the late Sylvester and Roberta (Green) Eberlein. He spent most of his years growing up in the Mishawaka area. He served his country in the US Marine Corps from 1955 to 1959. This is where he met his future wife, Helen “Pat” Donahue. They were married on May 12, 1958. The couple made their home in Somerville, Massachusetts before moving to Mishawaka in 2002.
George retired after 20 years with Sears in Massachusetts. After returning to Mishawaka, he spent 14 years at Martin’s on Bittersweet, working mostly in the meat department. George was a member and usher at St. Joseph Catholic Church and American Legion #161, both in Mishawaka.
George was preceded in death by his wife 62 years, Pat; a son, George R. Eberlein, Jr.; four brothers, Joseph, Bernard, Francis and Gregory Eberlein; and two sisters, Margaret Chesser and Mary Tyler.
George is survived by a daughter, Susan Eberlein; a grandson, David Eberlein, Sr; two great grandsons, David Eberlein, Jr. and Declan Eberlein; and five sisters, Theresa Farler, Linda Atwood, LouAnn (Richard) Flannery, Kathy Pipkins and Patricia Donoho.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Thursday, January 13, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Military Honors will be by VFW 360/American Legion 161 Burial Squad.
Visitation will be from 9:45 to 10:45 am on Thursday in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka.
Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Heartland Hospice.
