George G. Jarvis, 69, of Mishawaka, passed away Monday, October 17, 2016, in Hospice House, South Bend.
George was born June 19, 1947 in Sprague, Washington, a son of the late George C. and Edna Mae (Butterfield) Jarvis. He was a graduate of Sprague High School. George attended college in Spokane where he received medical training. He served as a Medic in the US Army during the Vietnam War.
George moved to Mishawaka in 1976. He was employed for 34 years at Independent Concrete Pipe in Mishawaka. He was an avid poker player and enjoyed fishing and was a sports fan. He loved his family especially his grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his former wife, Barbara Ann (Daily) Jarvis; a brother, Marcus Jarvis; and an infant brother, Billy Jarvis.
George married Sandra K. McGowan on February 23, 1980 and she survives. He is also survived by three children, Michael (Petra) Jarvis, Michelle (Sean) Broecker and Melissa (Shawn) Rice; a step-son, Ed Hendrix, Jr.; five grandchildren, Michael Paul Jarvis, Patience Ann Marie Conway, Kaemen Alexander Rice, Breonna Renet Rice and Hunter Lynn Hendrix; a great granddaughter, Elizabeth Conway; a sister, Jo Ann (Denis) Law; two brothers, Sandy (Cathy) Jarvis and Randy (Carrie) Jarvis; and several nieces and nephews.
Services honoring George’s life will be held Friday, October 21, at 12 noon in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, with Pastor Bob Vale officiating. Military honors will be provided by VFW 360 / American Legion 161 Burial Squad.
A time of visitation will be Friday from 11 am to 12 noon in the funeral home.
