Geraldine “Gerry†M. Skevington, age 94, of Mishawaka, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2015.
Gerry was born October 27, 1920 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, a daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Zuber) Carr. She grew up in Fort Wayne.
On May 2, 1941, Gerry married John Skevington. The couple lived in Fort Wayne until 1985 when they retired to Lady Lake, Florida. John passed away in 1989 and in 2004 Gerry moved to Mishawaka to live near a son. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka.
Gerry was a homemaker who was talented in sewing. While living in Fort Wayne her many activities included golfing and she won many tournaments over the years. Gerry was also an excellent bowler. She loved dancing and belonged to the Hula Honey’s.
Gerry’s surviving family includes three children, John “Jack†(Kay) Skevington, Jr. of Mishawaka, David (Deborah) Skevington of Slidell, Louisiana, and Janice (David) Liberman of Deerfield, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Peter Skevington, Amy Byers, Stacey Bruen, Kathryn Anticich, Jennifer Persick, Abra Garrett and Jacob Liberman; and thirteen great grandchildren, Sam Byers, Shawn Byers, Heather Byers, Samantha Byers, A.J. Bruen, Nate Bruen, Nadia Anticich, Luke Anticich, Jackson Garrett, Charlotte Garrett, Eli Liberman, Josh Liberman and Lylah Liberman.
Besides her husband, John, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Helen Delagrange; and two brothers, Robert and Tom Carr.
The family would like to give special thanks to the Center for Hospice Care, Senior Helpers and Tanglewood Trace for their compassionate care of Gerry.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, October 26, at 10:00 am in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Terry Fisher officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.
Visitation will be one hour prior to Mass in the church.
