Gertrude B. DeWulf, 99, of Mishawaka, passed away Friday morning, June 13, 2014, in East Lake Nursing & Rehabilitation, Elkhart.
Gertrude was born April 12, 1915 in Mishawaka, a daughter of the late John and Josephine (Simmett) Burggraf. She grew up in Mishawaka and was a 1932 graduate of Mishawaka High School.
Gertrude married Albert J. DeWulf at St. Monica Catholic Church on April 25, 1942. The couple made Mishawaka their home until 1955 and then moved to Beech Road, Wakarusa and lived there until 1994.
In her early years, Gertrude was employed at Dodge Manufacturing. Following marriage she was a homemaker. Gertrude was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church in Mishawaka. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, ceramics and was known as a good cook.
Gertrude’s surviving family includes a son, Gary A. (Arlene) DeWulf of Edwardsburg; three grandchildren, April DeWulf, Michelle (Lee) Stienke and Tamara (Mike) Kiefer; two great grandchildren, Jason Chupp and Bailee-Ann Kiefer; and three great-great grandchildren, Tyler Chupp, Jason Chupp, Jr., and Shianne Chupp.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; a son, David DeWulf; four sisters, Agnes Shilts, Irene Lippens, Helen Garrett and Marian Mathies; and a brother, Andrew Burggraf.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am Wednesday, June 18, in St. Monica Catholic Church, 222 W. Mishawaka, Ave., Mishawaka, with Monsignor Bruce Piechocki officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Friends may spend time with Gertrude’s family 5 - 8 pm Tuesday in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, and also 9:30 - 10 am Wednesday in church.
