Glenis V. Harness, 92, of Rhode Island, and formerly of South Bend and Mishawaka, passed away September 1, 2018 in Newport, RI.
Glenis was born March 20, 1926 in Smoky Junction, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Thomas and Lue C. (Burris) Ward.
On January 31, 1946, Glenis married Claude E. Harness. They lived in Smoky Junction until moving to South Bend in 1953 where they raised their two sons. In 1998, they moved to Hampton, South Carolina and returned to the South Bend/Mishawaka area in 2005. Glenis moved to Rhode Island in 2014 to reside with her son, Curt and his wife, Carol.
Glenis worked as a hairdresser for thirty five years and then at Brite-Way for several years. She was a member of South Side Baptist Church in South Bend. Glenis had a life-long love of quilting and made many beautiful hand-sewn quilts. She also loved to read and enjoyed making crafts.
Glenis was preceded in death by her husband, Claude in 2010; and a son, Rodney in 2014.
Glenis is survived by a son, Roy “Curt” Harness and his wife, Carol of Newport, Rhode Island; a daughter-in-law, Teri Harness of Sharon, Texas; six grandchildren, Jennifer Harness Rogers (Douglas), Tanya Harness Peckham (James), Dana Harness Cheney (J.D.), Gabrial Harness, Will “Bubba” Kornrumph (Jennifer) and Tim Kornrumph (Kaycee); and eighteen great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 am on Saturday, September 15, 2018 in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, with Pastor Allan Poage officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10 am on Saturday prior to the funeral service.
