Harold “Hal” R. Marchant, Jr., 82, of Mishawaka, passed away early Thursday morning, January 25, 2018 at Briarcliff Health and Rehabilitation in South Bend.
Hal was born November 11, 1935 in Mishawaka, a son of the late Harold R. Marchant, Sr. and Laura “Kreth” (Armstrong) Marchant. He grew up in Mishawaka and was a 1956 graduate of Mishawaka High School.
On June 23, 1956, Hal married Joyce M. Lindzy. The couple made Mishawaka their home.
Hal’s career was as a designer/illustrator/artist. He was employed at Studebaker Corporation in South Bend as well as Challenger Wrecker in Elkhart. Hal spent many years with A.M. General in their South Bend office. He took many educational classes while there and also entertained and traveled with many international customers.
Hal grew up at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mishawaka where he remained a member until the 1970’s. He then transferred his membership to the Episcopal Cathedral of St. James in South Bend where he served as an usher.
Hal had a great interest in aviation and history and enjoyed traveling. He was a member of the Studebaker Driver’s Club and also the Train Collector’s Association.
Hal’s surviving family includes his wife of over 61 years, Joyce; two sons, Randy Marchant and Jeffrey (Beth) Marchant; and a brother, Al (Pat) Marchant.
Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, February 3, in the Episcopal Cathedral of St. James, 117 N. Lafayette Blvd., South Bend, with The Very Rev. Brian Grantz officiating. A committal will follow in the Cathedral Columbarium.
Hal’s family will receive friends from 10 am to 12 noon on Saturday in the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Cathedral Heritage and Hope Disability Access Fund. Envelopes will be available at the church on Saturday.
