Helen M. Lovette, 89, of Mishawaka, passed away Friday, December 21, 2018 at home.
Helen was born January 29, 1929 in South Bend, the daughter of the late James and Ann (Lappe) Ewing. She grew up in South Bend and was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy in 1947. Helen attended Business College for one year. She moved to Mishawaka in 1965.
Helen was employed as an inspector at Burcliff Industries for 30 years. She did home health care in retirement. Helen was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Rosary Society. She enjoyed attending Class of 1947 St. Joseph Academy Girls Lunch Once a Month. Helen also enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, polka dancing, walking, attending family gatherings and was a Notre Dame Ladies Basketball fan. She had a heart and spirit of generosity.
Helen raised her children with love and discipline and provided an example of independence, strength, courage and self-sacrifice.
Helen is survived by her five children, Christopher Lovette, Terence (Julie) Lovette, Jennifer (Clint) Askins, Mary Louise Lovette and Sara (Marty) Wolfe; eight grandchildren, Kristin (Steve) Whittaker, Ashley (Adam) Piper, Angela (Jordan) Louie, Timothy Lovette, Allison (Justin) Hamilton, Madison (Jonathan) Varca, Matthew McGee and Erica (Casey) Hanley; twelve great grandchildren, Archer Pifer, Paige Pifer, Caleb Whitaker, Jacob Lovette, Emma Schleining, Xavier Schleining, Makayla (Walker) Polly, Violetta Varca, Bennett Hamilton, Piper Hamilton, Asia Salazar, Alexus Salazar; two sisters, Geraldine Struever and Lorraine Kelly; a brother, Robert (Joann) Ewing; and a sister-in-law, Henrietta Ewing.
Helen was preceded in death by her former husband, Paul Lovette; a son, Timothy Dennis Lovette; a great granddaughter, Katelyn Schleining; two brothers, William and James Ewing and five sisters, Mary Jane Kalal, Dorothy Haney, Betty Klebosits, Annie Heiden and Doris Ewing.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 pm Friday, December 28, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Christopher Lapp officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:15 pm Friday in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka. The Rosary will be prayed at 11:00 am in the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society or Center for Hospice Care.
