John Andrew Burggraf, 78, of Granger, passed away Saturday, August 7, 2021, in North Woods Village, Mishawaka.
John was born July 30, 1943 in Mishawaka to the late Andrew John and Ruby P. (Donnal) Burggraf. He grew up in Mishawaka and was a graduate of Penn High School. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from University of Notre Dame.
John spent 12 years as a Cost Accountant at Electro Voice in Buchanan. He then owned and operated DeCook’s Inn in Mishawaka for 25 years. He tended bar part-time at VFW 360 in Mishawaka.
John was a long-time member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Granger. He volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul Society and their food pantry. At one time John served as secretary of Northern Indiana Tavern Owners Association. He was an avid fan of Notre Dame sports and Chicago Cubs. He was very proud of his 1930 Ford Model A.
John is survived by his two children, Andrew (Cindy) Burggraf of South Bend and Robin (Kurt) Kelly of Plymouth; six grandchildren, Christine, Candice and John Burggraf, Lauren Kikly, Rachel Kolber and Jordan Harner; three great grandchildren; and John’s former wife, Julie Roth.
John was preceded in death by his brother, Norman Burggraf; and his sister, Lois Bonek.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Thursday, August 12, in St. Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Road, Granger, with Monsignor William Schooler officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
Visitation will be from 4 – 7 pm on Wednesday in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, with the Rosary being prayed at 7 pm. Visitation is also from 9:30 – 10:30 am Thursday in church.
