Jon Andrew “Andy” Thompson, age 61, passed away at his home in Edwardsburg, Michigan, with his family by his side on the morning of October 18, 2023. Andy was born December 27, 1961, to the late Jon Philip Thompson and Mary (Cook) LaShure. Following his high school graduation, Andy attended Ball State University. He later took a position as the parts manager for Forest River in Elkhart where he will be remembered for his attention to detail and outstanding work ethic.
Andy leaves to cherish his memory his children, Nicole (Ryon) Gannon of South Bend, Lorin (Brenden) McGann and Zach Thompson, both of Mishawaka as well as his sister Amy (Randy) Eberle of Marion, Indiana. Surviving as well are his grandsons, each of whom Andy bestowed with unique nicknames: Caleb '100%' Gannon, Kaiden 'the Rockstar' Gannon, and Cole, 'The Bear' McGann. Additionally, there is another grandson on the way, who will be named Calin Andrew McGann in honor of his beloved G-pa. Andy is also survived by the mother of his children, Anna Thompson of South Bend.
Visitation will be held two hours prior to the 6pm funeral on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Wells and Cruz Family Funeral Home (formerly Goethals and Wells) in Mishawka, with Pastor Denver Burns of the Michiana Community Church officiating. There will also be a celebration of Andy’s life on Saturday October 28, 2023, from 2-7pm at the American Legion, 25751 US-12 Edwardsburg, MI 49112. Andy's family warmly invites everyone to join and share in the celebration of his life.
Andy found solace in the hum of his Harley Davidson Road King’s engine during what he affectionately called "wind therapy." He loved to travel and spend time on the Gulf Coast of Florida’s sun-soaked shores creating memories with his kids during Spring Break. A devoted family man, Andy enjoyed spending time with his family and friends playing board games like Sequence and creating lifelong memories over countless card games throughout the years.
When his children were young, Andy took an active role as a coach in little league, and the Philadelphia Phillies held a special place in his heart. His kindness and generosity touched the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. Andy's big heart, coupled with his quick wit and sense of humor, brought joy to the lives of those around him.
