Joseph R. Chamberlin, Sr., 86, of Mishawaka, passed away Friday, January 28, 2022 at Pendle Home, South Bend.
Joe was born March 27, 1935 in Mishawaka, a son of the late Charles Leonard and Rosalie Dorothy (Huemmer) Chamberlin. He was a 1953 graduate of Mishawaka High School and was a life-long resident. Joe served his country in the US Army from 1955 – 1957.
On February 15, 1958, Joe married Elizabeth “Betty” Kohler and Betty survives. Also surviving are five children, Joseph (Becky) Chamberlin, Jr., Geneva (Tim) Brennan, Angel (Derron) Hess, Regina (Joe) Gomes and Melanie (John) Chamberlin-Dorsch; 19 grandchildren, Joseph III, Ryan, Craig, Erin, Mary, Kelsey, John, Christina, Jake, Caitlin, Alec, Joey, Liz, Cassandra, Kenny, Alexis, Merideth, Courtney and Valerie; 21 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; a brother, Paul (Barbara) Chamberlin; and a sister, Mary Velleman.
Joe was preceded in death by seven brothers, Charles, James, Jack, Robert, Kenneth, Frank and Bill Chamberlin; and a sister, Dorothy Dosmann.
Joe was employed in maintenance for 17 years at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka, where he was a member and sang in the choir for many years. Joe was a PHJC Associate and was a proud member of Friends of Bill W. since 1962. He was active with Barber Shop singing for many years and was a member of SPEBSQSA. Joe and Betty enjoyed wintering at Winterset in Palmetto, Florida for many years, where he sang with the Sarasota Chorus of the Keys.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, February 2, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery with military honors by VFW 360 / American Legion 161 Burial Squad.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Tuesday at Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka.
