Joseph G. Chikar, 71, of Osceola, passed away Friday morning, August 9, 2013, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka.
Joe was born January 29, 1942 in South Bend, a son of the late Joseph J. and Gizella (Weisser) Chikar. He grew up in South Bend and was a 1960 graduate of Riley High School. Joe attended Acme Tool & Die Design School in South Bend. He lived in Mishawaka for many years moving to Osceola in 1992.
Joe was employed in Tool & Die Design and Engineering Designs with Bendix (Bosch) for 27 years. He was a member of Christian Biblical Church of God. Joe enjoyed fishing and was a member of the Michiana Walleye Association. Other interests included working on the computer and internet, spending time outdoors and wintering in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
On July 29, 1967, Joe married Carole Lippens and she preceded him in death in 2002. On September 5, 2004, he married Betty (Marlar) Minton and she survives. Joe is also survived by a daughter, Amy I. Chikar of Goshen; a son, Joseph Jared Chikar of Mishawaka; three step sons, Michael Minton, Patrick Minton and Samuel Minton all of Arkansas; a sister, Barbara (Robert) Modos of Mishawaka; and nine step grandchildren; and two step great grandchildren.
Friends may spend time with Joe’s family Monday, August 12, from 6 - 8 pm and Tuesday, August 13 from 9 - 10 am in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka.
Services honoring Joe’s life will be held Tuesday, August 13, at 10 am in the funeral home with Pastor Steven Councell officiating. Entombment will follow in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum.
