Judith A. “Judy†Reeves, 63, of Mishawaka, passed away Wednesday afternoon, August 24, 2011, in her home.
Judy was born March 9, 1948 in Niagara Falls, New York, a daughter of Joseph and Marion “Dolly†(Serrianne) Amorelli. She grew up in Niagara Falls and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Brockport University and a Master’s Degree from Niagara University.
On June 14, 1975 in Niagara Falls, Judy married Kenneth Reeves. The couple moved to Mishawaka in 1975.
Judy’s employment included the Women’s Career Center and she was a caseworker for the Welfare Department. She was also the Director of Financial Aid at Ivy Tech and at St. Mary’s College.
Judy was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was past president of the St. Joseph Home and School Association. Judy loved lighthouses and was a member of SPLKA (Sable Points Lighthouse Keepers Association) near Ludington, Michigan. Judy and Ken have served the duty of Lighthouse Keepers at Big and Little Sable Points. She loved cooking and is especially remembered for her holiday cookies. Judy enjoyed collecting Harbor Light Lighthouses and doing cross stitch. Her family was an important part of her life and she especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren.
Judy’s surviving family includes her husband of 36 years, Ken of Mishawaka; a son, Christopher (Danielle) Reeves of Mishawaka; two grandchildren, Jared and Christine Reeves; her father, Joseph (JoAnn) Amorelli of Berrien Springs, MI; a brother, John (Lorraine) Amorelli of Pittsburgh, PA; a sister, JoAnn (George) Lenz of Niagara Falls, NY; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Judy was preceded in death by her mother, Marion “Dolly†in 2000.
Friends may spend time with Judy’s family Sunday, August 28, from 2 - 5 pm in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, where the Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 pm.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, August 29, at 10 am in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Terry Fisher officiating. Cremation followed.
Contributions in Judy’s memory are suggested to SPLKA (Sable Points Lighthouse Keepers Association) or Mishawaka Catholic Academy - St. Joseph Campus. Assistance with memorials is available at the funeral home.
