Lawrence D. Hostetler, 82, of Mishawaka entered eternal rest Tuesday, Oct. 8 with family by his side. He was born in South Bend on July 19, 1942, to the late Roy E. and Georgette (McLean) Hostetler and later married Kathleen Arata on Aug. 8, 1964, celebrating 60 years of marriage before his passing.

Kathy survives along with their children, Julie (Kyle) Kosey of Folsom, CA, Lucy (Jeff) Porter of Schaumburg, IL, Jospeh (Dawn) Hostetler of Brownsburg, IN, Rita (Christopher) Burgo of Walkerton, IN, Mark (Karen) Hostetler of Eau Claire, WI, Gregory Hostetler of Montreal, Canada, and Esther (Mark) Filpus of Ft. Wayne, IN. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, siblings, Daniel (Lori) Hostetler, and Rebecca (Julie Redpath) Hostetler, and a foster brother Jim (Sharon) Jorgensen. Lawrence was preceded in death by 2 sons, John and Benjamin and siblings, Ronald, Suzanne, and Linda.

Lawrence proudly served in the U.S. Army after graduating high school and dedicated nearly 30 years of his career as a machinist for Bayer Corporation. However, his contributions extended far beyond his work life. A devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka, he found deep fulfillment in his faith and community involvement. He loved his family and spent countless hours enjoying time with them fishing and enjoying the serenity of nature. In retirement, he cherished the opportunity to travel with Kathy, visiting family and friends, and creating treasured memories together. Those who knew Lawrence would describe him as the most thoughtful, caring, gentle, and generous person, always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need or tackle a home improvement project for family and friends. His commitment to faith and family formed the bedrock of his life, shaping his values and guiding his actions. Lawrence’s kindness and spirit will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A time to visit with family is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 13 from 2-4 pm at Wells and Cruz Family Funeral Home, Mishawaka. A Mass will follow on Monday, Oct. 14th at 11 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Lakeville.
