Leona “Lee†Jane Bass, 81, of South Bend, passed away Wednesday morning, January 25, 2012.
Lee was born September 3, 1930 in South Bend, a daughter of the late Theodore and Clara (Piepers) VanHulle. She grew up in South Bend where she spent the majority of her life. She married Robert Bass on November 10, 1962.
Over the years, Lee was employed as a waitress in area restaurants. She was a member of Eagles #435 (FOE) in South Bend. Lee loved playing bingo and it would be considered her favorite past-time. She was an avid Chicago Cubs and White Sox fan. Lee also enjoyed archery and bowling. She was known for helping family and friends and always put others before herself.
Lee’s surviving family includes her four children, Anna (James) Clark of South Bend, Theresa (Jerry) Chapman of South Bend, Larry (Karen) DeBaets of South Bend and Joseph (Traci) Raulerson of Florida; a brother, Julius (Rose) VanHulle of South Bend; and three grandchildren, David Clark, Steven Clark, and Edward DeBaets.
Lee was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; a daughter, Kathleen DeBaets; two brothers; and four sisters.
Friends may spend time with Lee’s family Monday, January 30, from 11 am - 1 pm in GOETHALS & WELLS Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka.
Services honoring her life will be held Monday at 1 pm in the funeral home with Pastor Bob Vale officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, South Bend.
