Lorna J. DeMaegd, age 92, passed away at her home in Edwardsburg, Michigan, on Friday morning, July 26, 2024. Lorna was born November 15, 1931, in Baraboo, WI to the late Fred E. and Lillian (Gustafson) Parkhurst. She was a graduate of West High School in Rockford, Illinois. On November 22, 1952, she married Julius DeMaegd, and they made their home in South Bend, Indiana.
Lorna is survived by her daughter, Melissa “Missy” (Timm) Reber of Edwardsburg, Michigan, her grandchildren, Michelle Fredenburg, Kyle (Nikki) Janowiak, Crystal (Scott) Denman, and Shanna Armstrong, and 6 Great Grandchildren: Julius and Jaden Foley, Amara and Odysseus Janowiak, Talon Armstrong, and Bentley Denman. Surviving as well is a very special friend of the family, Deb Moore. Lorna was preceded in death by her husband, Julius DeMaegd, her daughter Julie DeMaegd, and her sister Shirly Kubiak.
There will be 2 hours of visitation prior to the 12pm funeral service on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Wells and Cruz Family Funeral Home in Mishawaka. Following her services, Lorna will be laid to rest in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. A livestream of her service will begin 10 minutes prior to noon on Wednesday in the window below.
Lorna was a homemaker and became a mom when they adopted Missy in 1963 and Julie in 1966. She was a Blue Birds Leader when her girls were young, showing her commitment to helping and guiding her daughters. Lorna was also passionate about bowling and participated in leagues for many years. Lorna's skills on the lanes were matched by her ability to make lasting friendships through the sport. She also enjoyed playing cards with her lifelong friends in their card club. These gatherings were always filled with laughter and fun, reflecting her joyful spirit and love for her friends.
One of Lorna's favorite pastimes was sitting on her porch swing with her husband, Julius. They cherished these peaceful moments together, sharing stories, enjoying each other's company and talking with all the people who passed by. Her warmth and kindness touched many lives, and she will be deeply missed.
