Marilyn M. Sloan, 83, of Mishawaka, passed away Sunday afternoon, April 8, 2012, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa.
Marilyn was born February 14, 1929 in Mishawaka, the daughter of the late Elmer and Mabel (Mueller) Key. She was a 1947 graduate of Mishawaka High School. She was a life long resident of Mishawaka until 1999 when she moved to Miller’s in Wakarusa because of health issues.
Marilyn was employed in the Dietary Department of St. Joseph Hospital in Mishawaka for 25 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Mishawaka since 1942 where she has served as a Deacon, attended the Ruth Circle and assisted with staffing the nurseries. Marilyn was active with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts as well as serving as a Cub Scout Den Mother. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting especially baby items. She volunteered many hours sewing Pound Puppies for the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary.
Marilyn is survived by her three children, Douglas Sloan of Indianapolis, Robert (Cheryl) Sloan of Mishawaka and Sheila (David) Marvel of Bradenton, Florida; and three grandchildren, Michael Sloan, Samantha Marvel and David Marvel. Marilyn was married to Donald Richard “Dick†Sloan for 25 years and he also survives.
Services honoring Marilyn’s life will be held Thursday at 10 am in First Presbyterian Church, 401 Lincolnway East, Mishawaka, with Rev. Janet VanLear officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
Friends may spend time with Marilyn’s family Wednesday from 4 - 7 pm in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, and also Thursday from 9 - 10 am in the church.
