Martha Louise Nisley, 88, of Mishawaka, passed away early Thursday morning, June 9, 2016, in her home.
Martha was born August 6, 1927 in Mishawaka, a daughter of the late Peter and Clementine (Doens) DeLaruelle. She grew up in Woodburn, Indiana as well as Mishawaka and was a 1945 graduate of Mishawaka High School.
On November 28, 1946, Martha married Maurice E. Nisley. The couple made Mishawaka their home.
Martha was a homemaker raising six children. She was a long time active member of East United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and assisted in the nursery. Martha also helped with church treasurer work and with dinners for funerals and other occasions. She enjoyed the Bible studies. Martha delivered for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed playing cards and participated in a family Euchre club. Martha loved babysitting, especially for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her family remembers her passion for and considerable time spent ironing while she listened to Elvis Presley whose music she loved. Martha was a great mom with a thrifty nature. She was a wise lady, great friend and a “delight.†Her sense of humor and loving way will truly be missed.
Martha’s surviving family includes four children and spouses, Carol (George) Kornfeld of Jones, Michigan, Ronald (Christine) Nisley of Osceola, Michael (Kathrine) Nisley of Mishawaka and Roxanne (Richard) Pride of Columbia City, Indiana; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Nisley of South Carolina; eleven grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Hixenbaugh and Lequita Champion; and several nieces and nephews.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Nisley, Sr.; two sons, Maurice Nisley, Jr. and Donald Nisley; one great grandchild; four sisters and four brothers.
Services honoring Martha’s life and faith will be held Monday, June 13, at 11 am in East United Methodist Church, 1621 East 3rd Street, Mishawaka, with Pastor Scott Taylor and Pastor Rick Pride officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Friends may spend time with Martha’s family Sunday, June 12, from 3 - 6 pm in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 West 3rd Street, Mishawaka, and Monday from 10 - 11 am in church.
