Mary M. Brady, 85, of Mishawaka, passed away Monday, October 24, 2016, in her home.
Mary was born August 19, 1931 in Sublette, Illinois, the daughter of the late Roman and Marie (O’Brien) Malach. She grew up in Dixon, Illinois, where she graduated as Valedictorian from Dixon High School. Mary attended Mt. St. Clare Jr. College in Clinton, Iowa.
Mary married John D. Brady on June 16, 1951 in Dixon. They settled in Mishawaka in 1954.
Mary completed courses at IUSB to become a Paralegal. She was employed with various local attorneys and specialized in estate planning.
Mary was a long time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka where she sang in the choir, was a collection counter and served on the school board. Mary and John were active in the Cursillo Movement. She enjoyed cooking, baking and entertaining. At one time she was an avid golfer. Mary traveled extensively with John, accompanying him on many business trips around the world.
Summers were a special time for the Brady family as they had a lake cottage at Christie Lake in Perth, Ontario, Canada where Mary loved entertaining family, friends and their Canadian neighbors. Mary and John considered the cottage their “Golden Pond.†Mary especially enjoyed fishing there and seemed to always catch the biggest fish!
Mary dearly loved her family. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 65 years, John; a son, J. Patrick (Lisa) Brady of Loveland, Ohio; a daughter, Anne (Richard) Watson of Mishawaka; three grandchildren, Christopher (Emily) Brady, Devon (Melissa) Brady and Sara (Tim) Snyder; five great grandchildren, John, Mollianne and Olivia Snyder and Ronan and Donovan Brady.
Mary was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph (Elsie) Malach; and a son-in-law, Alan Miller.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 28, at 11 am in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Christopher Lapp officiating. Cremation will follow and burial will be at a later date.
Friends may spend time with Mary’s family Thursday, October 27, from 3 - 7 pm in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, where the Rosary will be prayed at 6 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Church Choir or Center for Hospice Care. Assistance with memorials is available at the funeral home.
