Mary Jane DeWitt, 92, of Mishawaka, passed away early Wednesday morning, July 9, 2014, in her home.
Mary Jane was born August 31, 1921 in Mishawaka, a daughter of the late John and Anne (Hendricks) Tollens. She grew up in Mishawaka and was a 1940 graduate of Mishawaka High School.
Mary Jane married T.M. “Bob†DeWitt in 1947. They lived for many years at Hamlin Lake near Ludington, Michigan where they enjoyed their small farm. They wintered in Mesa, Arizona. Following Bob’s death, Mary Jane returned to Mishawaka.
Mary Jane was a homemaker and a social person. Mary loved antiques and belonged to a local antique club. She also enjoyed needle work and gardening.
Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband; three sisters, Leona Walters, Marion Tollens and Donna Lanum; and two brothers, Peter Tollens and Jim Tollens.
Mary Jane is survived by a nephew, Peter (Laurie) Tollens of Wake Forest, North Carolina; and a sister-in-law, Sally (Al) Zeisz of South Bend.
Services honoring Mary Jane’s life will be held Saturday at 12 noon in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 West 3rd Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Thomas Jones, CSC, officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
Visitation will be Saturday from 11:30 am - 12 noon in the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice.
