Mary R. Hurst, 64, of South Bend, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2022, following a long illness.

Mary was born February 17, 1958 in Mishawaka, where she grew up and graduated from Mishawaka High School.

Mary was united in marriage to Gary E. Hurst on August 28, 1976. Over the years the couple lived in Osceola, Buchanan and South Bend.

Mary was a homemaker who enjoyed baking and was especially known for her cookies and brownies. She loved decorating her home, entertaining and having parties. Mary and Gary enjoyed cruises together. At one time she sold “Home Interiors”.

Mary’s Christian Faith was an important part of her life. She was baptized in Jesus Name and received the Holy Ghost at Christ Temple Apostolic in South Bend and attended First Pentecostal Church in Edwardsburg.

Mary is survived by her husband of over 45 years, Gary; two children, Danell (Brad) Geans and Matthew (Dawn) Hurst; nine grandchildren, Remington (Lauren) Geans, Ryland (Demi) Geans, Meghan (A.J.) Garcia, Ariel Velazquez, Alberto Velazquez, Sonia Velazquez, Carlos Pagan, Madison Hurst and Greyson Hurst; nine great grandchildren; five sisters, Rebecca (Terry) Parker, Jeannie (Dennis) Severns, Regina Rose-Sanchez, Kathy (Teddy) Goodson and Nora (Jeff) Redding; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mary was preceded in death by her fathers, Morris Curtis and Glen Rose; her mother, Mavis Rose; and a sister, Sheila Rose.

Services honoring Mary’s life and faith will be held at 11 am on Thursday, March 17, at Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, with her son-in-law, Pastor Bradley Geans leading the service. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.

Visitation is from 4 to 7 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
