Mary Jane Carter

Mary Jane Carter, 92, of Mishawaka, passed away in the loving arms of her family on Thursday, September 16, 2021.

Mary Jane was born August 18, 1929 in Mishawaka to the late Forest Dean and Lucinda Jane (Gilliland) Stebbins. She grew up in Mishawaka and was a graduate of Mishawaka High School.

Mary Jane married Francis “Mike” Michele in 1950 and he passed away in 1983. In 1987 she married Albert “Al” Carter and he passed away in 2019. She was also preceded in death by her three brothers, Paul “Dean” Stebbins, Jay “Pete” Stebbins and Leslie Forest Stebbins.

Mary Jane is survived by her three daughters, Susan (Bob) Lewis, Sally Jo (Dane) Vida and Sharon J. Michele; three step children, Jay (Rhonda) Carter, Mark (Jane) Carter and Julie (Doug) Fritz; ten grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

Mary Jane’s employment over the years included, Mishawaka Utilities, Mishawaka Federal Savings and Loan, and Grissom Middle School. She was a member of Coalbush United Methodist Church, Triple R Riding Club and Mishawaka Alumni Association. She was a social person who enjoyed time with friends and especially loved playing Bridge.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 pm on Monday, September 27, in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka. Private family burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.

Visitation will be from 1 – 2 pm on Monday prior to the service.

Memorials are suggested to Coalbush Church or Center for Hospice Care.
