Peter G. Murton, 77, of South Bend, passed away Monday afternoon, June 10, 2013.
Pete was born October 10, 1935 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the son of the late John and Winnefred (Goulden) Murton. He grew up in Ann Arbor and lived there until 1970 when he moved to Harrison, Michigan. In 1974 he relocated to South Bend.
Pete served his country in the US Army during the 1950’s and was stationed in Germany.
Pete’s employment included Michigan Tire Benders, Murton’s Laundry, Curtis Products, Corrugated Paper, Uniroyal and Lycro Products. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He was a great handyman and helped many of his friends with projects and remodeling.
Survivors include his daughter, Kimberly (James) White of Westerville, Ohio; a son, John (Nancy) Murton of South Bend; and two grandchildren, Jimmie White and Emily Murton.
Pete was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kayleigh White in 1997.
Friends may spend time with Pete’s family Thursday, June 13, from 4 - 7 pm in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka.
Services honoring Pete’s life will begin Thursday at 7 pm in the funeral home with Pastor Bob Vale officiating.
Burial will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, Michigan.
Memorials are suggested to the Humane Society of St. Joseph County. Assistance with memorials is available at the funeral home.
