Peter George Obren, 87, of Mishawaka, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at home.
Pete was born July 3, 1929 in South Bend, a son of the late George and Elsie (Kovachevich) Obren. He grew up in South Bend and Mishawaka. He served his country for several years in the US Air Force.
Pete married Shirley Meyers on April 5, 1963 and the couple made South Bend their home. Shirley passed away in 2002. In 2005 Pete moved to Mishawaka.
Pete was employed for many years at Allied Stamping in South Bend. He was a member of the Eagles in Mishawaka. He enjoyed yard work and vegetable gardening. He loved traveling to Disney World and spending time with his friends.
Pete’s surviving family includes a daughter, Julie Obren; a granddaughter, Alisabeth; two brothers, Andy (Arlene) Obren and Fred Obren; a sister, Rose Harlow; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, Shirley; Pete was also preceded in death by a daughter, Angela “Angie†Obren; a granddaughter, Brianna; brothers, George and Steve Obren; and sisters, Joan Kovachevich, Donna Bickel, Anna Obren, Mitzi Goethals and Violet Millage.
Services honoring Pete’s life will be held Friday, July 8, at 11 am in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, with Pastor Bob Vale officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, South Bend.
Friends may spend time with Pete’s family Thursday, July 7, from 5 - 8 pm in the funeral home.
