Phillip Charles Bour, age 78 of Mishawaka, passed away at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. Phil was born January 16, 1946, in South Bend, Indiana to the late Chester and Laverne (Camp) Bour. Following his graduation from Riley High School, Phil heard the call of his country and enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served honorably during the Vietnam War. Phil married Barbara Matuszkiewicz and they celebrated 51 years of marriage before Barb’s passing in September of 2024.
Surviving are his daughters, Shellie and Amy Bour, both of Mishawaka, four grandchildren, Kylee (Cameron) Clark, Alyssa Bour, Ellen Piechocki, and Evin Bour-Gilson. Surviving as well are his great grandchildren Easton, Lawson, and Violet, his sister Phyllis (Douc) Hong, his nephews Kevin (Leila) Brzezinski and Shawn Brzezinski, his nieces, Tina (Peter) Kraakman, and Anita Schultz, two great nieces and four great nephews, as well as several other great nieces and nephews. Phil was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Barbara, and a nephew, Chris Berreth.
Following Phil’s wishes, cremation has taken place with a private family celebration scheduled at a later date. Wells and Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Care has been entrusted with his arrangements.
Phil spent many years as an insurance inspector and adjustor, working at Commercial Services Insurance, General Accident, and JMI. His work ethic and commitment to his profession were evident throughout his life.
He was a man who truly embraced life, spending time outdoors at his cottage on Big Fish Lake in Michigan. There, he found joy in fishing and swimming in his backyard pool, always appreciating the beauty of nature.
A passionate sports fan, Phil followed local teams with great enthusiasm, cheering for the Colts, Bears, Notre Dame, White Sox, Cubs, and Bulls. His love for sports was matched only by his excitement for trips to local casinos, and he and his wife, Barb, enjoyed many memorable vacations in Las Vegas.
Phil's greatest pride and joy were his daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He dedicated his life to his family, always finding ways to make them smile, often with a special nickname that only he could come up with.
