Rene De Beck, 98, of Mishawaka, took his final breath on Saturday, August 3, 2024, with family around his bed. He was born December 24, 1925, in Mishawaka to the late Remi “Whitey” and Clemence (Menschaert) De Beck. He later married Martha Rogowski on May 24, 1958; she preceded him in death in 2010.
Surviving are their three sons, Victor (Melody) De Beck, Gary (Michelle) De Beck, both of South Bend, and Robert De Beck of Cromwell. Three grandchildren, Adam (Torrie) De Beck, Chad (Jessica) De Beck, and Kaleigh (Justin) Winkler, with 2 great-grandchildren Kate and Colin De Beck, and one on the way. Along with Rene’s parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Aloyuis “Al” (Sophia) De Beck.
Rene proudly served in the US Navy and spent most of his working life with the City of Mishawaka, both on the Fire Department and maintaining the Battell Center when it first opened. He was a life member of local VFW Post #360 and enjoyed escaping to Lake Cass in Middlebury for weekend relaxation. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, whom he considered to be his greatest pride and joy.
A time to visit with family is scheduled for Thursday, August 8, 2024, from 4-8pm, at Wells and Cruz Family Funeral Home, Mishawaka. A service will be held Friday, August 9, at 11 am, after an hour of visitation beginning at 10. Burial at Fairview Cemetery will follow the service.
