Richard C. Leslie, Sr., 89, of South Bend, passed away Tuesday morning, October 4, 2016.
Richard was born September 30, 1927 in Mishawaka. He grew up in Mishawaka and spent most of his adult life in South Bend. He served his country in the US Army from 1945 to 1947.
Richard was employed for many years at Martin’s Super Markets. Following retirement, he worked as a greeter at Walmart in Mishawaka. For most of his adult life, he was employed with various vendors at the South Bend Farmer’s Market and in recent years in the Wolf Farms Perennials and More booth.
Richard was a member of VFW Post #303 in River Park. He loved playing cards and going to the casino.
Richard surviving family includes four children, Linda Strantz, Richard Leslie, Jr., Donna Cooper and David Leslie; four step children, Janice Brugh, Kathy Lentz, Kenny Lentz and Alice Smith; a brother, Norman Leslie; a sister, Donna Swarm; and several grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Grace Lechlitner; five brothers, David, Howard, Russell, Bob and Joe Leslie; a sister, Jean Ludwig; and an infant daughter.
Services honoring Richard’s life will be held Friday, October 7, at 11 am in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, with Pastor Bob Vale officiating. Burial will follow in Ferrisville Cemetery, Mishawaka. Military honors will be provided by VFW 360/American Legion 161 Burial Squad.
Friends may spend time with Richard’s family Thursday, October 6, from 5 - 7 pm in the funeral home.
