Richard "Steve" Stephen Bosse

Richard Stephen “Steve” Bosse, 81, of Mishawaka, passed away Sunday morning, August 1, 2021, surrounded by loved ones, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend.

Steve was born January 8, 1940 in Goshen to the late Richard W. and Vera (VanGilder) Bosse. He grew up in Elkhart and was a 1958 graduate of St. Joseph High School, South Bend.

After attending St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas, he was called upon to help with the family business, Artley Flute Company of Elkhart (later in Nogales, Arizona), where he served as its President.

After Artley was sold, Steve moved from Arizona, back home to Indiana and married his high school sweetheart and wife of 40 years, Rita A. Diroll on January 2, 1981.  Professionally, he was President of Printers Stock Box in Mishawaka and after a short time there, was employed as a sales representative for Jamil Packaging Corporation in South Bend then later in Mishawaka.

Steve absolutely loved the game of golf, winning two Mishawaka Metro tournaments in the mid 90’s and in retirement, he was employed at Erskine Golf Course in South Bend. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka and a life member of the Knights of Columbus.

Steve loved cooking, especially outside on the barbeque, entertaining family and the neighbors in his epic garage gatherings for Notre Dame & Chicago Bears football games. Steve also loved sports, fishing in Mexico, driving across the country with his wife to see all of this country’s wonders together along the way.  Steve really enjoyed history and reading, amassing a large collection of books in his library.  Most of all, Steve dearly loved his family.  Time spent with his nieces and nephews was always special.  He cherished his many longtime friends and enjoyed the monthly get-togethers with his high school buddies.

Steve is survived by his loving wife and soulmate, Rita; four children, Stephenie Ann Kaauamo, Joseph Stuart Bosse, Matthew Louis (Brodie) Bosse and Kathleen Ann (Robert) Purcell; a brother, Carl Bosse; and six grandchildren, Bobby and Beau Bosse, Ashley (Kyle) Lutzelberger and Robert, Cari and Daniel Purcell. He also is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.  Steve was preceded in death by his parents and beloved younger sister, Kathleen Ann Bosse.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka.
