Robert “Bob” D. Bobson, Sr., 83, of Mishawaka, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at home.
Bob was born March 8, 1934 in Mishawaka, the son of the late Ralph and Myrtle (Wilcox) Bobson. He was a 1952 graduate of Mishawaka High School and a life-long resident of the community. He served his country in the US Army from 1956 to 1958.
On January 24, 1958 in St. Monica Catholic Church, Bob married Serena Townsend. The couple made Mishawaka their home.
Bob was a police officer with the Mishawaka Police Department, a profession he truly loved. He retired after 22 years of service. He then was employed at St. Francis Convent in Mishawaka and retired after 10 years there. Bob was a member of F.O.P. Lodge #91. He dearly loved fishing, especially on The Great Lakes.
Bob’s surviving family includes his wife of 59 years, Serena; two children, Robert “Bob” D. (Barb) Bobson, Jr., of South Bend and Judith “Judy” A. (Gary) Savill of Lakeville; four grandchildren, Samantha (Andy) Smith, Katelynn (Ben) Halbig, Thomas R. Bobson and Kathryn “Kat” Bobson; a great grandson, Rhett Halbig; and a niece Nancy (Richard Jahnke) Mitchell.
Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Mitchell; nephews, Gary and Jerald Mitchell; and a niece, Patricia Bokor.
Following Bob’s wishes, a graveside service at Fairview Cemetery will be held at a later date.
