Robert “Bob†E. Bowen, 81, of Mishawaka, passed away Thursday, February 19, 2015, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, following a lengthy illness.
Bob was born February 2, 1934 in Underwood, Indiana, a son of the late Robert A. and Gladys (McCartney) Bowen. He grew up in Austin, Indiana. Bob proudly served his country in the US Army from 1954 to 1957. Prior to his military time in the Army he served in the National Guard.
Bob married Bonnie L. Neher on September 28, 1958 in South Bend. Following their marriage the couple settled in Mishawaka.
Bob was a truck driver belonging the Teamster’s Local # 364. He retired from USF Holland in 1995. For years Bob greatly enjoyed his hobby as an Amateur Radio Operator. His call letters were KB9ZP. He loved dogs. Bob and Bonnie enjoyed camping at Beaver Ridge Campground. He is remembered for being a hard worker who loved his family.
Bob is survived by his wife of over 56 years, Bonnie; four children, Robert A. (Anita) Bowen of Mishawaka, Kristi Kocsis of Mishawaka, Bonnie (Dan) Powell of South Bend and Michael Bowen of Mishawaka; a brother, Lincoln Bowen; a sister, Susan Cochran; seven grandchildren, Sarah Bowen, Andrew Bowen, Tyler Kocsis, Lindsey Kocsis, Adam Briones, Danielle Gipson and Vince Powell; and five great grandchildren, Jordan, Lillyana, Derek, Oscar and Anabelle.
Bob was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Bowen.
Friends are invited to spend time with Bob’s family at a Memorial Gathering from 6 - 8 pm on Tuesday, February 24, in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka.
Military Honors by VFW 360 / American Legion Burial Squad will take place at 6 pm Tuesday at the beginning of the Memorial Gathering.
